+ Cape Ann Shingle Style

MM+F created this modestly sized seaside Cape Ann home that captures the spirit and history of the grand Shingle-Style homes of the Gilded Age. Replete with sensitive details and fireplaces throughout, this modest three-bedroom home captures a grandness through the deft use of scale and proportion.

A semi-open plan is organized around a formal axis on the ground floor, where pale-surfaces of beadboard, interior columns, and richly sculpted moldings pair beautifully with walnut-stained white oak floors and a Cape Anne granite fireplace. The second-floor bedrooms embrace shades of the sea and nearby foliage while a master bath adorns a freestanding tub set at an angle to cleverly maximize space around dual sinks. Projected bays and private balconies give all three rooms unique ocean views, while the third-floor transitions to Douglas-fir and nautical themed woodwork that envelopes a private office, small kitchenette, and a larger outdoor deck with 180-degree views of the Atlantic ocean.
