+ Modern Shingle Style
This home sits snug on a spectacular New England seaside lot. The design team, which included associates from New York City, worked together to distill the essence of the Shingle-style down to minimal modern forms, details, and materials. The result was a calming backdrop for seaside living, marrying site, house and sea into a cohesive experience.
From the formal gravel motor court, the visitor is teased with strips of blue ocean that penetrate glass interstitial spaces and function to separate public areas from more private ones. Shingle-style qualities include a limited material palette, crisp forms wrapped in white cedar shingles, and articulated openings framed in classic white trim. Modern aspects include black steel windows and doors, vast panes of glass, concealed roof gutters and downspouts, and accents of Rheinzinc roofing from Germany.
The interior is bathed in soft whites, neutrals, and pale ocean colors. Fumed white oak floors in wide plank formation provide comfort underfoot. Ceilings with soft cove lighting soar in the foyer and bedrooms, while soft textures, linear detailing, and sleak cabinetry define a sophisticated but relaxed atmosphere.
